Overview

This project involved redesigning FXMM Studio’s existing website to improve usability, visual appeal, and functionality, while also laying the groundwork for better SEO performance.

I was initially brought in to conduct a SEM assessment, but after reviewing the site, it became clear that structural UX and UI issues needed to be addressed first, and it would be more convenient to update the website before implementing SEM strategies or other ad campaigns.

My biggest challenge was to redesign a website in a niche market to appeal to potential clients, as well as leaving the website as accessible as possible for the production team to upload new artists, projects, and other updates to the site.

The process combined UX research, UI design, and WordPress development to deliver a sleek, modern site tailored to the client’s needs.

Design approach

The website’s redesign focused on improving user understanding, showcasing FXMM’s portfolio, and creating a flexible system that the internal production team could manage independently.

I started with an audit of the existing website, reviewing structure, content, and performance. This was followed by a competitor analysis of similar studios in the same niche/region to identify common patterns in navigation, content hierarchy, and presentation.

The interface was designed as a modular and layered system, separating security-related controls from application content. This approach allowed the platform to remain flexible and adaptable as the product evolved.

Based on these insights, I restructured the site to:
  • Emphasize portfolio, projects, and artists
  • Improve navigation and content flow
  • Introduce clearer call-to-action elements
  • Balance a modern, visually driven interface with accessibility and clarity

Early sketches and wireframes were translated into digital prototypes, which was helpful to illustrate how the content and the visual direction could improve conversions.

Midway through the process, the creative direction evolved, and I collaborated closely with one of FXMM’s graphic designers to refine the interface while maintaining UX performance and content structure.

Role & Responsibilities

I was responsible for the UI/UX design and WordPress development throughout the project.

My responsibilities included:

  • UX research, website audit, and competitor analysis
  • Information architecture and content restructuring
  • Wireframing and UI design in Figma, including initial concepts for the redesign and then working with one of the graphic designers for the final prototypes
  • Copywriting and content creation
  • WordPress development and responsive implementation
  • Creating custom post types and ACF fields to allow non-technical team members to manage different post types, such as artists and projects
  • Layout and performance optimization for desktop and mobile
  • CSS customization and AI-assisted JavaScript for specific UI behaviors

Outcome

The final result was a modern, content-driven website that clearly communicates FXMM Studio’s services and showcases their work while remaining easy to maintain internally.

The redesigned structure improved usability, engagement, and readiness for future SEO efforts. The website now provides a strong foundation for long-term growth, with planned next steps including content expansion and search engine optimization through a dedicated Insights section.
